Integrated supply chain approaches to reach under served zero dose communities with vaccination and PHC services

While significant gains in reaching more people with more vaccines have been made since the 1974 launch of the Extended Program on Immunization (EPI), coverage improvements stagnated during the decade leading up to 2019, and then fell dramatically during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The WHO and UNICEF Estimates of Immunization Coverage (WUENIC) found that 25 million children were left either unvaccinated (zero-dose) or incompletely vaccinated in 2021, an increase of more than 5 million compared with 2019. For immunization programs to recover and to accelerate progress towards the IA2030 goal of halving the number of zero-dose children by 2030, effective and innovative immunization supply chains (iSC) strategies must be scaled up.

Effective supply chains are critical for reaching under-served populations with immunization and primary health care (PHC) services, as this webinar series will demonstrate. But many programmes face challenges with iSC, including unreliable and duplicative distribution channels, weak stock management systems, and shortages of trained iSC professionals. This webinar series will walk you through technical guidance on effective iSC solutions and share successful examples from countries.
