Resource WHO/UNICEF Joint Reporting Form on Immunization
Purpose To report national immunization coverage, reported cases of vaccine-preventable doseases, immunization schedules, and indicators of immunization system performance.
Content The WHO and UNICEF jointly collect information on immunization coverage through a standard Joint Reporting Form (JRF) sent to all Member States. The JRF includes estimates of national immunization coverage, reported cases of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), immunization schedules, as well as indicators of immunization system performances. It is completed by national immunization programme staff in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF country office, and the completed forms are returned to the WHO/UNICEF HQs, where data are extracted, reviewed for completeness and consistency; queries could be send to countries to clarify absent information and inconsistences. The nationally reported immunization coverage data (official, administrative) and survey data are used to come up with WHO UNICEF Estimated National Immunization Coverage (WUENIC) estimates. On the WHO/IVB website information is available by WHO Member State, as well as summarized by WHO region.
All countries report their national coverage rates for multiple antigens, while 140 countries (mostly LMICs) also report data for the second sub-national level (available for 2016-2018). Also useful are Indicators on 1) DPT drop-out rates (# of districts reporting drop out >10%) and 2) # of districts reporting DPT3, MCV1 and MCV2 coverage rates in various percentage categories. The # of districts with coverage
Use Does not require user input. Data is available
Contraints/Limitations These estimates are based on the reported administrative data. However, there is potential for bias in the reported data due to over-or under-estimation of denominator populations or overreporting of doses administered. Possible outdated survey data.
Example criteria this resource could address •Can extract data on coverage through out the years, for different vaccines.
•Equity data on district coverage, and for certain years also information for coverage on the second sub-national level.
